Parral is located in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, on the Parral River. The city, a rail and highway junction, is one of Mexico’s large mining centers, especially for silver, which has been mined in the region since the 16th century. From 1640 to 1731, the city was the capital of the colonial province of Nueva Vizcaya. One of the first cities to take up arms during Francisco Madero’s revolution of 1917, it was later (1923) the site of the assassination of Francisco (Pancho) Villa.
