Parral is located in the state
of Chihuahua, Mexico, on the Parral River. The city, a rail and
highway junction, is one of Mexicos large mining centers,
especially for silver, which has been mined in the region since
the 16th century. From 1640 to 1731, the city was the capital of
the colonial province of Nueva Vizcaya. One of the first cities
to take up arms during Francisco Maderos revolution of 1917,
it was later (1923) the site of the assassination of Francisco (Pancho)
Villa.
